The brief

Spring 2026. Red Bull was launching a limited-edition Cherry Sakura flavour and wanted to make some noise with Gen Z. The plan: send the new flavour to 50 influencers and turn product sampling into something worth sharing.

The idea

We went back to the inspiration behind the flavour: sakura season. In Japan, people gather to enjoy the cherry blossoms in full bloom. We wanted to bring that feeling inside of people's home and make the unboxing itself the moment. So we made the cherry tree the hero.

Open the box and a blooming tree unfolds from inside, instantly turning a product delivery into a little piece of spring. We added a subtle sakura scent and a real cherry blossom branch as a keepsake, giving the experience something to discover, smell and keep. Instead of simply sending influencers a new can, we brought cherry blossom season to their doorstep.

The campaign generated organic social buzz and plenty of positive reactions around the new Cherry Sakura flavour. And the idea got a little more life beyond social: the solution was featured in Leeds Business School’s Retail Review, Issue 3, 2026.

The first challenge was making the tree big enough to create a wow moment, but small enough to actually ship. We explored different structures and mechanisms, testing how far we could push the idea while keeping it realistic for production and budget. Eventually, we landed on a cardboard pop-up structure. Frankly, none of us were pop-up book experts :)

With production team we experimented with different folding techniques and prototypes until we found a vertical folding mechanism that gave us the biggest visual impact while keeping the whole thing practical to produce and transport. From there, we worked with the production supplier to figure out the materials, construction and final execution.
